This year, O’Callaghan’s Mills GAA together with Kilkishen Camogie and Kilkishen Handball club are celebrating the 100th year anniversary of the official opening of the GAA field in Kilkishen. The pitch was formally opened on June 29th, 1923, with a tournament consisting of O’Callaghan's Mills, Tulla, Newmarket, Kilkishen, Meelick, Parteen, Kilbane, Clonlara, Ruan, Ogonnelloe, Quin & Clarecastle. It has been a mainstay for sporting and GAA activities in the community ever since.
To commemorate the 100-year anniversary, an organizing committee have planned to hold a weekend of celebration and activities at Hamilton Park Kilkishen on Saturday July 1st and Sunday July 2nd 2023.
Tournament games in hurling and camogie across multiple ages from U7 to adult are planned. We are also privileged to be hosting the Clare Cup Final on Sunday July 2nd and would like to thank Clare GAA for giving us the oppurtunity to host this prestigious event in the Clare GAA calendar.
We are commissioning a special plaque to be unveiled by the Chairman of the Munster Council Ger Ryan over the weekend marking 100 years since the field was opened. This will also open the new development of the clubhouse, gym and dressing rooms, which unfortunatley we did not get to officially open during the pandemic.
The club are also printing a programme especially for the weekend which will be available to purchase as a special souvenir, aswell as medals for the participating teams, a barbeque (weather premitting) refreshments and kids’ games and activities.
We will be looking for your support over the coming weeks and hope that all can come to Hamilton Park on the weekend to celebrate with us.
Alot of work has happened recently to get the facilities ready for the hosting of this weekend, and especially to put us in a position to host the Clare Cup Final. Alot more work is required over the coming week. All support is welcome. We are inviting local businesses to have their names printed on a sponsors page on the programme. We would also welcome any donations, or offers of help from the public who would wish to support or help out over the weekend of July 1st & 2nd. Please contact club sectretary Patrick Hogan 0863692296 or any of the organising commitee if you would wish to offer your support.
