The Junior Bs championship campaign ended this afternoon against Killaloe side Smith O'Briens in Ogonnolloe but not without a fight! After topping their group coming into this game, the Mills outfit were quick out of the traps with a point from midfield from Brendan Hannon, followed by a trademark Rory Neville goal. But that was as good as it got for the next 20mins as Smith O'Brien's fired over 7 points without reply. We would only score once more from a free through Colm McHugh before half time, when we would trail 10pts to 1-2. The Mills again started the 2nd half brightly, with Noel Nash entering the fray at centre forward, we seemed to get a foothold in the game. 2 frees from Colm McHugh and points from Mark Fitzgerald and Liam Boyce would cut the deficit to just 2 midway through the 2nd half, 11 pts to 1-6. Smelling the danger, Smith O'Briens pushed on scoring the next 3 points and the jig seemed to be up entering the last 5mins. But fair play to our lads they never gave up, and got it back to 1 puck of a ball before time ran out. It was valiant effort for our 3rd team, who were down Alan O'Dea today. We did have a number of goal chances in the 2nd half but the Smith O'Briens goalie was in top form. Fair play to our Junior B management, Diarmuid Boyce, Dave Mc, Declan Donovan and Nigel Davey and to the 37 players they got to line out over the coarse of this year, which is a fantastic achievement for a small club.
